Which accounting software works with Claude?
Short answer
Any accounting software that offers an MCP connector. Anthropic's Small Business plugin works with ledgers such as MYOB, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero and Zoho Books, and Octobooks is a ledger built to be run through Claude itself.
How does accounting software work with Claude?
Claude connects to other software through connectors built on the Model Context Protocol, an open standard for connecting AI applications to external systems (modelcontextprotocol.io). You can add connectors from Claude's connectors directory or add a custom connector with a server URL (Claude Help Center). So the question to ask any accounting product is simple: does it offer an MCP connector, and what can its tools do?
Which ledgers does Anthropic's Small Business plugin support?
Anthropic publishes a Small Business plugin for Claude. For skills that need a ledger, such as cash flow, month end prep and invoice chasing, any of MYOB, NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero or Zoho Books will do, and the plugin ranks none above another (knowledge-work-plugins on GitHub). If you already use one of these, connecting it to Claude is a sensible first step.
These connectors give Claude access to the data each ledger exposes, which differs from product to product. The plugin notes, for example, that some connectors offer no bank balances. Check what yours can read and write before you rely on it for a task.
What is different about a ledger built for AI?
Most ledgers were designed for people at a screen, and a connector was added later. A ledger built for AI access starts from the other side. The AI is the main way in, so it gets a tool for each task, and the ledger keeps the books safe while the AI works.
